1966, Lee Marvin was filming the Professionals and staying at the Mint Hotel. He complained that Vegas Vic was too loud, so casino execs turned off the speech and left it that way for almost 2 decades.
Vegas Mate Review of the Week
MrEinLA’s July 6th review of El Cortez – 4/5 chips
Anyone who listens to the monologs I create for the Twitpic of the week winner knows I have a passion for photography. This week’s winner isn’t the prettiest candidate we had this week. It isn’t the most unique shot nor is the ultimate representation of an iconic property. With so many great candidates to choose from this week, I had to go with why photography is my favorite form of art, it’s ability to evoke emotion. This week’s winner did that unlike all the other candidates. It made me fell pathos. This week’s winner comes to us from @bobsmith55 for a photo he took, from the plane as it flew away from Vegas, taking him home. I would imagine that everyone who listens to this show has seen this view before and felt the melancholy of watching the strip shrink outside of the plane window. I know there have been times that I’ve felt a lump in my throat while I watch paradise slip from my grasp as the end of a visit. I remember one time in specific when I couldn’t bring myself to stop looking and didn’t look away until none of the buildings were visible to the naked eye. This experience has to be what it feels like to die, discover there is an afterlife, then get brought back. That is why this picture won the “Twitpic of the week”.
