Twitpic of the Trip

There was no way that any picture other than one taking from or of the suite at the Palms wasn’t going to win Twitpic of the trip.  The hard part was just picking which one considering the view we had of the strip as well as the over the top room we stayed in.  Ultimately, I went with unique.  I’ve seen loads of awesome photos of the strip taking off-strip but I’d never seen this.  The “pic of the Trip” is a shot taken from the northeast corner of the room the morning after.  I picked this because it really gives you an idea of how large and over the top the place.  What you don’t see is this is only a little more than half of the entire suite.  You are still missing the “visible to the whole suite” shower with stripper pole in it as well as the 2 ½ baths, the floor to ceiling glass with remarkable views of the strip or that the entire suite is wired with speakers in the ceiling.  I only wish I had this thing for 360 Vegas Vacation because it was epic.

PCP - 360 Vintage Vegas: E Parry Thomas

The man who helped Las Vegas develop into the #1 tourist destination in the world wasn’t a casino owner, a performer, a dealer or an architect.  He didn’t create the Neon Signs, develop any casino standard practices or build any of its properties.  However, without E Parry Thomas, virtually none of the aforementioned would exist.  An argument can be made that no single individual has done more to direct the growth and development of Las Vegas in the last half century than E Parry Thomas.

Business Week once wrote that “Frank Sinatra Gives Las Vegas It’s Glitter, Parry Thomas gives it its gold.   In a city known for it’s neon lights, flamboyant owners and epic mega resorts, the man who helped make it all happen is virtually unknown to the 39 million people that visit it annually, and that’s the way Parry likes it.

Vegas Mate Review of the Week
This week, it’s Lance’s Sept 7th review of Mandalay Bay – 5/5 chips

Twitpic of the week

This week’s winner goes to @m_a_r_c_u_s for the most annoying twitter handle to type as well as a picture of the view that made me fall in love with the city.  I’ve talked about it a few times that the first time I came to Vegas, I was so intent on making sure I saw everything that I didn’t really experience the city.  Two years later, we returned with some friends and Keren and I landed a room with this view.  That view and that trip set in motion the obsession that eventually created this show.  This photo caught the strip at night with the Mirage Volcano in full effect.  It’s a beautiful picture and a beautiful view that brought back so many memories.  Thanks Marcus with too many underscores for sharing it.
